Numbers Up! is a resource of five games:

• Invader Defender 
• Bear Factory 
• Mars Mission 
• Grid Signs 
• Grid Words.

In the first three, you do a calculation. When you enter the correct answer, you achieve the objective i.e. attacking an alien invader, saving a bear from the 'rejects' bin, or landing safely on Mars. In Grid Signs and Grid Words, you have three calculations to do. The operations are given in symbols or words, and you enter numbers to make the given answer.

You can select the speed at which questions are delivered for all the games and you can check your answers and obtain scores at the end.

The games are easy to use, and the graphics are lively and up-to-date, likely to appeal to a generation of games users as well as those new to the computer.

Question Sheets

You can generate worksheets for any topic and level covered by any topics and level covered by the disc. Questions are generated at random and users can answer and check them on screen, or print them out and complete them away from the computer.

For each game and question sheet users can select the type of number and the appropriate level, from Entry 1 to Level 2 of the National Standards for Adult Numeracy. The Adult Standards map to the following National Curriculum (NC) and Key Skills levels:

• Entry 1 - NC level 1
• Entry 2 - NC level 2 
• Entry 3 - NC level 3 
• Level 1 - NC level 4/5 - KS level 1 
• Level 2 - KC level 2.

The games are carefully structured to fit the curriculum levels for each type of number.

The activities are designed to support learning in a wide range of adult education contexts: FE colleges, community and family programmes, training organisations, the workplace, and prisons. The games are also suitable for use in schools.

The facility to print out worksheets enables more learners to work on individual activites at the same time if computer resources are limited; and the worksheets can be used to provide follow-up consolidation or homework activities. Numbers Up! can be used with online learning environments too.
