Tribal CTAD developed The Spelling Disc with Birmingham Core Skills Development Partnership and Birmingham Adult Education Services (BAES). Audio support is provided throughout, and in many activities learners can choose their own text and background colours. The content is accessible to screen readers.
There are three main areas:
Start off - a learning styles quiz and videos of learners talking about how they remember spellings
Keeping going - modules covering six topics:
Follow-up - contains links to all the worksheets and more than 20 word lists with games and a spelling test activity. Tutors can write their own lists with the authoring tool provided.
The Spelling Disc is best used as part of a wider learning programme, as its resources complement other approaches. It provides materials that learners can work through at their own pace, with various levels of support.
This resource supports learners in a wide range of adult education contexts: FE colleges, community and family programmes, training organisations, in the workplace, and in prisons.
It is also suitable for students in schools and sixth-form colleges working at Key Stage 4 and beyond and students working towards Key Skills Level 1 and 2 Communication.
