Tribal CTAD wins Marie Curie award

Tribal CTAD has been successful in securing a Marie Curie award from the European Union. Working with five prestigious universities across Europe and building on existing research, the project will establish an underpinning educational philosophy and a range of appropriate resources for the delivery of Personalised Self Directed e-learning and m-learning to support basic adult literacy, numeracy and language learning.

Increasing the basic skills and educational levels of underachieving adults through improved use of ICT is a key priority in the EU’s strategy for combating social exclusion and meeting the skills needs of employers. Combining the use of e- and m- learning with Personalised Self Directed Learning is an under-researched challenge that has the potential to make basic and transferable skills learning much more effective.

The project will be delivered by a transnational research team with complementary expertise in cognitive psychology, androgogy, and learning design for ICT-based resources and human-computer interaction. The team will create two experimental Learning Labs which will provide the basis for developing, piloting and evaluating new approaches to digitally assisted Self Directed Learning.

The project will provide the exchange Fellows with access to a wide range of guidance and CPD opportunities aimed at enhancing research competence, developing communication skills and increasing understanding of how to develop mutually beneficial working relationships between academia and industry.

This approach aims to foster lasting collaboration between the partners and will give academic credibility to the e- and m-learning developments of Tribal CTAD. To support the dissemination and application of the research the project will also develop a flexible support programme for learning providers that will include guidance and standards for developing digitally assisted Self Directed Learning and working case studies. A series of public seminars and research papers will further disseminate the research results.
