< Back to Target Skills
Target Skills uses a text-to-speech engine so that students can hear what they write. This feature is optional but if you do choose to install it, you can make adjustments to the pronounciation of a certain word used by the TTS Reader. This can be helpful for words with unusual pronunciations (e.g. names):
Solution
The first step is to spell the word out phonetically so that the pronunciation of that word is right.
Launch our TTS Reader tool by clicking
C:\CTAD courses\Target Skills\courses\tts_reader_settings.tsbs.
Practise phonetic spellings, and adding spaces or commas to get the word to sound right.
The second step is to store this pronounciation, so that Target Skills always uses that pronunciation instead of the default one:
Edit the TTSReader.ini text file in the tools subfolder. This is probably called:
C:\CTAD courses\Target Skills\tools\TTSReader.ini.
When you open this file, you can edit the [convert_words] section to add the original word on the left, and the pronounciation version on the right. For example,
[convert_words]
NHSdirect=N H S direct
slideshow=slide show
recognise=recognize
arithmetic=ar'ithmet'ic
halving=haalving
(If the TTS Reader tool doesn't launch, you haven't installed the TTS option.)
