Text-to-speech: How do I change the voice used by the Reader tool?

< Back to Target Skills

Target Skills uses a text-to-speech engine so that students can hear what they write. This feature is optional but if you do choose to install it, you can make adjustments so that you can tweak or change the voice that you hear:

  • Launch our TTS Reader tool by clicking on the following:
C:\CTAD courses\Target Skills\courses\tts_reader_settings.tsbs (it may be on your network; not on your C:\ drive).
  • This application lets you configure and save various features of the voice used by the Reader tool. Depending on which other voices you have installed on your machine, there could be a wide range of pre-prepared voices (or named voices).
  • You can also control features of the voice such as pitch and speed. When you change thse features, we recommend that you listen carefully to examples of how the voice sounds before resetting the voice for the entire Target Skills product range.
  • (If the TTS Reader doesn't launch, you have not installed the TTS option.)
