Earlier this month, Juan Delgado from Tribal's software team gave a presentation at SubFlash 07 (www.subflash.com), a Spanish Flash developers’ conference held in Malaga.

Juan’s workshop, Recycle your code (and focus on what matters) explored how to develop better and smarter code with greater code reuse – the ‘holy grail’ of good development. Juan says that ‘although coding our framework might look like reinventing the wheel, the fact is that we end up with something doing exactly what we need, nothing more, nothing less. Also, adding features or fixing bugs is easier because we know our code.’

In the workshop, Juan reviewed some of the strategies and frameworks that are currently working well at Tribal. As the lead Flash developer at the company, Juan has championed the use of several open-source tools, and robust development architectures within ActionScript development, which is transforming the Flash codebase.

The software team in Cambridge is a tightly-knit group of developers with a diverse range of technical skills. Software director, Geoff Stead, commented that ‘normally the team’s technical wizardry happens behind closed doors, but we are enthusiastic supporters of the open-source community and so sometimes we venture forth to share our messages further afield.’
