Work-based Skills for Life

We have a broad understanding of the issues involved in improving Skills for Life through working with employers, work-based learning (WBL) and workplace providers.  Our consultancy team has offered strategic advice and effective consultancy support to clients such as Regional Development Agencies, Birmingham Core Skills Partnership, Electrolux Ltd., Pioneer Health Care Centres and many local Learning and Skills Councils. For example, Tribal CTAD recently provided consultancy services for an LSC in the North of England, offering support in a range of areas, and in particular, support for work-based learning providers.

Our support for workplace learning provision resulted in:

  • exceeding the target for engaging employers in Skills for Life, and brokering in different learning models, including learndirect
  • forging strong links with Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) and individual unions in some companies
  • establishing exemplars for future activity in the area; one employer has become a National Test Centre and another is now a Skills for Life provider, delivering within their own organisation as well as to other employers and the local community.

Our support for workplace learning provision resulted in:

  • nine employers becoming actively engaged in Skills for Life, exceeding the initial target of seven
  • action-planning getting underway with all nine employers
  • A range of Skills for Life providers – and different learning models, including learndirect – brokered into employers’ training provision
  • Strong links with Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) and individual unions being forged in some companies
  • Exemplary activities, including one employer which has become a National Test Centre and another which is now a Skills for Life provider, delivering within their own organisation and also to other employers and the local community.
