Step in to Learning
We're embedded
The National Childcare Strategy, the Green Paper Every Child Matters and Sure Start local programmes and children’s centres all inform what we do in Step in to Learning.
This phase of Step in to Learning is to build capacity by distributing our sustainable model for Skills for Life delivery across Family Learning throught England. This will improve the literacy, language and numeracy of:
- the workforce in the early years and childcare sector
- parents
- carers
and, most important, it will help to improve the life chances of the children they are working with.
We're also targeting frontline staff who serve the public directly in many settings - NHS, Jobcentre, Schools and Colleges, Citzens' Advice Bureaux etc. They have a crucial role in encouraging and supporting the people they deal with who are most at risk of social exclusion. We're helping them to adapt their approach to adults with literacy, language and numeracy needs, act as honest brokers for potential learners, signpost them to local provision or even set up their own.
