Target Skills: Level 1 Numeracy covers many of the core curriculum elements of Number, Measures, Shape and space, and Handling data, including new, less familiar topics such as tessellation, symmetry and probability.

Topics include:

• Negative numbers 
• Percentages 
• Ratio and proportion 
• Using timetables, and average and range.

At Level 1, integrated tasks can also provide portfolio evidence for Level 1 Key Skills in Application of number.

Each module has three elements: 

• Find out more - learning material that explains a new skill 
• Try it out - a chance for learners to practise what they've learnt 
• Check your skills - a short test that confirms learners' learning.

Target Skills: Level 1 Numeracy supports learning in a wide range of adult education contexts: FE colleges, community programmes, family programmes, training organisations, in the workplace and prisons.

As the levels in the adult literacy and numeracy national standards correspond to the levels in the national qualification framework, the standards are broadly equivalent to levels in the national curriculum for schools. So Target Skills: Level 1 Numeracy is also suitable for use in schools and sixth-form colleges at Key Stage 4 and beyond.

The CD-ROM can be accessed in two ways:

• standalone - all CD-ROM resources can be accessed and an end-of-session record generated 
• with the management system - resources can be tailored for the individual; all work is tracked and stored on the web site.
